Marie Akerman

Marie is a Director of Development at Civic Consulting Alliance, where she leads engagement of our corporate and foundation philanthropic partners. She joined the organization as Associate, Development and Communications in January 2019.

Prior to Civic Consulting Alliance, Marie served as Donor Services Manager at the Community Foundation of Utah, a pillar of Utah’s philanthropic community that supports the state through grantmaking, thought leadership, and nonprofit capacity building programs. There, she managed grantmaking processes and stewarded the foundation’s donors and fund advisors. Marie began her career in the social sector as Communications and Development Manager at Working Bikes, a nonprofit that gives used bicycles new life by redistributing them as tools of empowerment in Chicago, Central America, and Africa. As Working Bikes’ first operations, development, and communications staff member, she built systems to support its continued growth.

Marie holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Grinnell College, and a Master of Arts in Social Science from the University of Chicago.

Marie lives in Uptown with her husband, daughter, and cat. In her free time, she loves to bake, travel, sing, read, and ride her bike.
